Descriptif:
An approximately square cylinder with flat, unglazed base. Buff stoneware painted in coloured enamels and gilt over a creamy glaze having a fine, brown-stained crackle. The cylinder is inscribed on one side with the calendar for the year 1705 AD., and on the opposite side with twelve roundels in various colours displaying the various animals of the zodiac. On the other two sides is painted the same all-over design of flowering pomegranate (kikyô) with gilt flowers and green and black leaves on a dark brownish-red ground, one face bearing also a descriptive panel which is inscribed: "Hôei kinoto tori" ("a calendar for 1705") in black.
